TRAVERSE CITY -- Hundreds of people are headed to Traverse City this weekend hoping to "Save the Great Lakes Forever".

That's the theme of a two day conference that kicks off tomorrow night at the State Theater.

Topcis will range from the current threats to the Great Lakes; like Asian Carp and other invasive species, to discussion on solutions to protect the resources and the people who depend on them.

Keynote speakers will be Maude Barlow; author/co-author of 16 books and was Senior Advisor on Water to the 63rd President of the United Nations General Assembly, and Wenonah Hauter; Executive Director, Food and Water Watch, D.C.

The conference will be hosted by the Flow for Water Coalition, the Great Lakes Water Studies Institute at NMC and Michigan Citizens for Water Conservation.  Eric Olson with the Flow for Water Coalition said, "I think what we have to take a look at as part of this conference is the fact that the demand for water is quickly coming to a choke point.  The Great Lakes represents 20% of all the fresh surface water, in the world, okay?  Where are they gonna look for it?  Big target, right?"

The conference begins at 6:30 tomorrow night at the State Theater.

Tickets are still available.  Click here to purchase them online or call Jilliebean Green at (231) 432-0103 for more information.
