LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Three volunteers from the American Red Cross Northwest Chapter are in Arkansas and are heading to an area that has not yet been assessed since the deadly tornados hit last week.

Misty Youngson, an AmeriCorps Team Member with the local Red Cross flew into Little Rock, Arkansas this week.  She says the team spent Wednesday in training and learning about a new focus of concern.  The team was originally sent to the area to help families dealing with tornado damage, but now that focus has turned to severe flooding concerns.

Youngson said Thursday she and five others are on their way from Little Rock to Blytheville.  The new concerns are about the rising river, which is expected to get worse this weekend and has already shut down parts of I-40.

Youngson also said her team was trained in damage assessment due to the fact that no one has been to Blytheville since the tornados hit.  The group has no idea yet on what conditions they will face once they arrive Thursday afternoon.

The Volunteers from the Traverse City area will be in Arkansas for about three weeks.  The Red Cross is also sending two other volunteers Friday to help in the wake of the storm damage.  One will be heading to Tennessee and one will be going to Georgia.

7&4 News will continue to check in with the Traverse City group as they continue their efforts in Arkansas.
