TRAVERSE CITY -- In Thursday’s Made with Michigan Hands report…It's a locally produced product that's giving folks a new "on-the-go" breakfast option. 7&4's Kate Fox introduces us to the convenient, healthy creations of Bolajoe.
Owner of Bolajoe Marcia Wittig says, "I was a busy working mother just like most other mothers and one morning i was making my oatmeal and coffee and decided -- not enough time -- put it together and ate it!"
Seven years after cooking up that idea Wittig launched Bolajoe, a local company that makes hearty oatmeal with a coffee kick.
Wittig says, "It's for folks that want a healthy breakfast but need to get out the door in the morning, it's a nice product to make it and take it with them!"
It comes in convenient, earth-friendly biodegradable cups which makes for a perfect anywhere-anytime meal.
She says, "This is just something they can take with them -- keep it in their desk at work -- take it with them to the gym and they know their doing something good for their body"
Café mocha is Bolajoe's first creamy flavor.
Wittig explains, "If you can remember back when you were a kid mom was making the no bake cookies and maybe you got a taste out of the pot, it's like that but a lot less sugary!"
Only organic ingredients are used which makes for a healthy, wholesome, northern Michigan made product.
Wittag adds, "We purchase our ingredients from Oryana, our package is from a local company. As the company grows... our commitment is to add jobs to the local economy!"
As a mother Wittig says the best part is working with her son and daughter.
She says, "It's actually awesome we just been able to develop a really nice respect for each other and understanding for each others strengths and skills and build on those, so it's been a really kind of a nice family building project with us!"
