SAULT STE. MARIE, MI -- War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie will soon be able to serve more patients in its emergency room.
The hospital was notified Thursday by the USDA that they will get nearly $22-million in grant funding.
They had asked for $40-million.
Hospital officials say most of the money will be used to renovate and expand the emergency department.
Currently, War Memorial serves more than 18,000 emergency patients a year with just 9 beds. This funding will double that capacity.
Money will also pay for covered walkways from the parking lot and medical offices to the hospital.
