Community Colleges brace for cuts
TRAVERSE CITY -- Community colleges across Michigan are bracing for cuts next year.
While Governor Rick Snyder wants to hold funding for community colleges steady, both the proposed state senate and house budget plans call for cuts between 3% and 15%.
Northwestern Michigan College says to make up for lost money it will look at eliminating some job positions and raising tuition.
Stephen Siciliano, VP of Educational Services says, "We are looking at a variety of things, personal makes up 70% of budget, so we are looking at what kinds of positions do we not hire this year, what positions do we discontinue, and what reductions do we make?"
NMC board is taking a look at all it's options at it's meeting Monday night.
