TRAVERSE CITY -- Local government officials, legislative leaders, and community members are discussing the economy and its impact in northern Michigan.

The Northwest Michigan Council of Governments' Leadership Summit is underway at the Hagerty Center in Traverse City.

In response to the significant economic and policy changes facing the state, the summit is a venue to share information affecting communities with government officials.

"There is no doubt that government officials at all levels are paying attention to the ever-growing impact the economy is having on local budgeting and policy making," said Matt McCauley, NWMCOG regional planning director. "This is a unique opportunity  to gain greater access to information about the economic impact of budget matters, tax reform and revenue sharing."
