GREENWOOD TWP. -- Three armed-men are still on the loose after breaking into a Greenwood Township home, that’s in Clare County, Friday morning and holding a man and wife at gunpoint.

The couple was sleeping when three men woke them up, blinded them with flashlights, and pointed guns at them demanding all of their valuables.

The sheriff says he doesn’t remember a situation like this happening in his county before.

Right now, he wants these three thugs off the streets.

A little after two this morning, three gunmen jimmied this locked door, forced their way into this home, and terrorized the couple who was sleeping inside.

"They described all three males between 5'5" and 5'10", you know going by voices and that, it's kind of hard, but they think maybe in their early 20's," explained Clare County Sheriff John Wilson.

The couple didn't want to be identified or talk on camera, but allowed us in their home to show the smashed light fixture and the cut telephone lines the armed-suspects left behind.

“It's not good, it scares me," said Sheriff Wilson.

The suspects crept up these stairs and into the couple’s bedroom.  They told them to get out of bed and face the wall.  While one of them men held the husband and wife at gunpoint, the other two ransacked the house looking for anything of value to steal.  The couple was then tied up and the suspects took off, leaving this loose change on the porch in their quick getaway.  The man was able to get free and drive to the Sheriffs Office for help.

“The letter "J" was said to a person there.  hey, did you check that "J," or do you want the TV "J," so we don't know if they were using "J" as a name or just to throw us off."

The Sheriff says his department is doing everything they can to get a lead.  They don't know if this was a local job, or some out-of-towners passing through.  A neighbor close to the situation said this is a wake-up call.

"Think you're in a safe neighborhood, but you really never know the way things are today so you have to take all the precautions you can," said Clare County resident Ted Mathis.

This means lock the doors and set the alarm.  As for the victims, they'll have a little extra security close by until the three men behind a terrifying night are caught.

The Sheriff wants your help tonight.  There is a $1,000 reward for anyone who can help put these punks behind bars.

It was a frightening wake up call for a Clare County couple.

The Greenwood Township couple was asleep in their home when they were awaken by three men standing at the foot of their bed yelling for them to get up.

The three men were armed with what appeared to be semi-automatic hand guns.

The homeowners were ordered out of bed.  While one gunman stood over them the other two started searching the home.  The couple says they were asked where the jewelry, safe and money were kept.  When the couple said they had none of these items, the gunmen started collecting small items from the home including at least two guitars.

Before leaving the home, the gunmen removed all of the phones and then tied the couple together.

The Clare County Sheriff says the men are believed to be in their early 20's and one answered to the name of "J".
