Trial begins for former school employee charged with sex crimes

TRAVERSE CITY -- The trial for a former school employee charged with several sex crimes in Grand Traverse County is underway.

Michael Porter was working as the Chief Technology Officer for the Traverse Bay Intermediate School District when he was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a teenager as well possession and manufacturing child pornography.

Investigators took several computers, cell phones and other electrical devices from Porters home.  Officials say the victim is not a TBA-ISD student and they do not believe any students were involved in the case.

The jury was selected Tuesday morning.  Wednesday investigators taking the stand.   The trial is scheduled to continue through Thursday.

If found guilty of the charges, Porter faces life in prison.   He resigned from TBA-ISD on January 14.
