TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- More than 1,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies are ready to be shipped off to American soldiers fighting overseas.

Girl Scout Troop #10037 held a packing party Saturday afternoon at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Traverse City. Hundreds of care packages were assembled by dozens of volunteers.

The organization Operation American Soldier partnered with the Girl Scouts to pay for shipping to the troops.

“We appreciate the efforts of Girl Scouts Troop #10037 for all their efforts…we know our military men and women overseas appreciate this special treat of cookies as they continue to sacrifice for our freedom,” said Christine Stalsonburg, Chair of Operation American Soldier.

Disabled American Veterans, Korean War Veterans and the American Legion Auxiliary also contributed to the project.
