LANSING, MI -- Secretary of State offices will not accept driver’s license applications and renewals, or process card corrections or replacements on Saturday, March 26, because a national computer system will be down for upgrades, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson announced today.
The National Driver Register will be down over the weekend and won’t allow driver checks that are required under federal law when issuing or renewing driver’s licenses. Normally, customers can obtain or renew licenses from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays at the seven Secretary of State SUPER!Centers. Regular license service will resume Monday, March 28.
Driver’s licenses that show as expiring on March 26 or March 27 will be considered valid through March 28.
The Michigan Secretary of State’s Office is required by federal law to check the computer network to ensure that people with unresolved licensing problems in one state can’t obtain a license from another state.
Customers still will be able to change their legal address, clear license suspensions and pay license reinstatement fees this Saturday, besides being able to perform other non-driver’s license transactions at the SUPER!Centers.
