TRAVERSE CITY -- A Traverse City restaurant is speaking out on the benefits of surveillance cameras and their crime solving capabilities.
House of Doggs Owner Nick McAllister says, "Video says it all, it shows what happened regardless of what anyone says...its proof."
McAllister says his eight surveillance cameras have cracked the case on more than one occasion.
He explains, "Once in a while some of my late night crowd sees something they like, and they forget I have a sign up that says they can buy it off me and they just take if off the wall."
That’s exactly what happened on March 5th at 1:43am. Now police are using surveillance video to identify the individual.
This is footage that makes it easier for police to recreate a crime.
Traverse City Police Captain Brian Heffner says, "A lot of the times were dealing with witnesses recounts of a case or crime and what video allows us to do is exactly show what happened...who was involved in what, who did what, and how the played a role in the crimes."
Captain Heffner says there's an increase in cases solved by surveillance cameras because more and more businesses are installing them.
This is something McAllister says is a smart move.
McAllister says, "They're very affordable; I think I got mine for 500 bucks, and you can monitor them from home or on your smart phone if you want."
McAllister says all would be forgiven if the individual would just stop in, apologize, and maybe offer to replace the damaged guitar.
For now, if you have any information about the man in the video you're asked to call the Traverse City Police Department Detective Bureau at 231-995-5152 or the Silent Observer Tip Line at 231-947-TIPS (8477)
