ACME TOWNSHIP, MI -- Smoke and flames filled the sky in Acme Township, Grand Traverse County Saturday afternoon as firefighters partook in ‘live burn training.’

As part of the training, multiple fires were started at an abandoned one-story motel. Dozens of firefighters took turns knocking down the flames.

The event was hosted by the Grand Traverse County Metro Fire Department. Fire Chief Pat Parker said the practice gives rookie firefighters the chance to learn real life lessons in fire fighting.
