MANISTEE -- A Manistee County man is behind bars, accused of stabbing another man, leaving the victim with serious wounds.
Police were called to the intersection of Third Street and Maple Street in Manistee around 11:15 p.m. Sunday night for a disturbance.
Shortly after that the officers were advised that a man was found with a serious stab wound at a house about a block away.
Police found the man with a laceration to his lower back and a puncture wound that was about four inches deep. It is bleieved hte weapon hit the man's kidney and was taken to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City for treatment.
Before being taken to the hospital the man was able to identify his attacker by name.
Troopers located the suspect and arrested him. Troopers obtained a search warrant for the premises of the suspect in an attempt to locate the weapon involved.
A weapon was located however it is not known if it is the same one used in the assault. Other evidence was located that connected the suspect to the crime scene. This evidence included some clothing that appears to have blood on it and will go to the lab for testing.
The 26-year-old suspect admits knowing the victim but denies any knowledge or part in the stabbing. He is being charged with assault and for a parole violation. The suspect is on parole for a fatal stabbing about 6 years ago.
Both individuals had been drinking prior to the incident. At this time the cause of the assault is unknown. The victim was unable to tell us what brought the two together in that parking lot on the corner of Third and Maple. All he was able to was the name of the suspect.
