OTSEGO COUNTY, MI -- Plans for a new animal shelter in Otsego County are a step closer to reality.
The Otsego County Planning Commission approved the site plan of the new 6,000 square foot animal shelter.
The plan is to begin building the new shelter in May at a price-tag of $900,000.
It will replace the aging and not-as-efficient current shelter.
"Storage is poor, there's no room for isolating animals that are sick from the healthy ones, so things that spread throughout the shelter, and there's no room at the current site to just expand, we wanted to just expand there, add on, and do that, but there's just not the room," said Otsego County Administrator John Burt.
Building funds from the current animal control millage would be used to build the new shelter.
The final plans are almost finished.
Bids will go out in the next month, and once received, will go in front of the County Board of Commissioners for final approval.
