LONG LAKE TWP. -- Resident's in Grand Traverse County's Long Lake Township no longer have a community police officer dedicated to patrolling the area.

The township stopped paying for the officer at the beginning of January, saving them about $75,000 a year.

The Long Lake Township Supervisor says they decided to spend that money on all-day, every day fire and emergency services.

"People can be really secure in the fact that we do have 24/7 coverage and when a call goes out that there is someone there to service them whatever their needs might be so I just feel that its a plus for our township," explained Karen J. Rosa.

A Grand Traverse County deputy still does pass through the township occasionally.  The Sheriff's Office is also responsible for responding to calls.
