GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY -- UPDATE: The victim from the fatal crash on M-72 has been identified as Aaron Richard Peterson, 30, from Traverse City.
The crash happened Thursday around 4:20 p.m. on M-72 just east of Skegemog Point Road in Whitewater Township. The accident shut down M-72 for several hours.
Investigators say the Aaron Peterson crossed the center line and hit a full size van traveling in the opposite direction
Peterson was pronounced dead at the scene..
The driver of the van was identified as Thomas Merchant, 28, of Kewadin. Merchant was transported to Munson Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. He is listed in Fair condition Friday.
The incident is still under investigation.
