TRAVERSE CITY -- Cherry Capital Airport took time on Tuesday to honor someone who's had a significant impact on the airport for over 30 years.

Stephen Cassens, former Cherry Capitol Airport Director, announced his retirement not long ago.

He was recognized for his contributions not only to the Traverse City community, but to aviation in General.

He was awarded a special tribute from Senator Howard Walker, Representative Wayne Schmidt and Governor Rick Snyder.

Cassens said, "I felt, you know, that it was really something to be recognized for your efforts when you think, you know, all the time, you're just doing your job."

Cassens also says he looks forward to remaining active in the community.

Cherry Capitol Airport is still in the process of naming a new Airport Director.
