TRAVERSE CITY -- The city commission discussed installing cameras to help monitor what they called problem areas in downtown Traverse City Tuesday night.

The targeted area of concern would be near Union Street between Front and State Streets.  That's behind three bars and in the area of the new Tabu Lounge.

The commission voted to postpone the action until further research is done.  The police department will compile statistics and any complaints received and present that information to the city commission.

A motion was also approved to consider prohibiting public entertainment in certain downtown districts between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.  This ordinance could go into effect as early as March 21, 2011.
