GRAYLING, MI -- Wooden Crosses will be placed inside Mercy Hospital rooms, thanks to a community donation.
April and Charlie Bertram, owners of Northern Lawn and Home Care, provided the funds for supplies and materials and Cliff Tate, owner of Precision Woodcrafters, individually hand crafted each of the 40 crosses.
This project came to fruition because it was brought to our attention by a visitor that some patient rooms were lacking a cross. After this concern was brought to the hospital’s attention, an inventory was conducted and it was discovered that 40 patient rooms were lacking a cross. “Our Christian heritage is something that our community members value and the Cross represents not only our heritage but it brings solace, comfort and a sense of "belonging" for our patients, families, visitors and staff,” noted Lorelei King, Director of Mission Services.
April and Charlie Bertram learned of this need and offered to donate the supplies needed to construct 40 crosses while Cliff Tate donated his time to make them. “It’s nice to do something for our community,” said April. “We have a wonderful hospital.”
