TRAVERSRE CITY -- TCAPS is launching a program that's putting iPads in the hands of students with Autism.
TCAPS Executive Director of Elementary and Special Education Jamie McCall says nine students in the district with Autism Spectrum Disorder will receive iPads.
The hope is to use the instrument as a way to remove the barrier of language for students with ASD.
The devices are jam packed with applications catering to the students needs. The apps are fun-filled exercises which is less stressful and more fun for both the teachers and the students.
McCall says, "iPads are cool gadgets but we want to make sure that it promotes learning so in combination with our parents, the autism resource network, our teaching staff and the students... we’re just trying to make sure that we are opening as many doors as possible for all students."
This program will last until the end of the year and if it's effective they plan to expand it for selected students.
