CHEBOYGAN -- Officials in northern Michigan are warning the public to look-out for scrap metal scams.
The Cheboygan County Sheriff's Office says at the end of January a Cheboygan businessman was approached by a group, referring to themselves as "Liberty Surplus" about purchasing scrap metal.
The group visited Cheboygan, paid for half the scrap metal, then made up a story of coming back to pay for the rest.
Officials later tracked the men down state in Macomb County's Sterling Heights. The suspects have since agreed to compensate the victim.
