PESHAWBESTOWN -- Some Northern Michigan charities are getting a financial boost thanks to the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians.
The Band handed out $978,461.32 to 58 area organizations Wednesday for its 2 percent allocation of gaming revenue.
On January 26, the Tribal Council voted to decide which organizations would recieve the funds. Of the 92 applications received, the Council awarded 58.
The two percent allocation takes place twice a year. Since 1994 The Tribal Council has handed out more than $26,503,034 to area charities.
The money was given to organizations across the area, including Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Leelanau and Grand Traverse Counties.
The recipients enjoyed a special performance by the Medicine Lodge drum group during the allocation event.

Acme Township Funding for Traverse City Convention and Visitors Bureau's marketing campaign to encourage visitation and business opportunities to the Traverse City area. $ 50,000.00
Alba School Funding to purchase a camera with projector, Ideashare Interactive Whiteboard, Stands, and Got It! Student Response System to enhance student's limited access to educational, cultural and social resources that today's world has to offer. $ 10,000.00
Antrim County Funding for the Antrim County High Tea for Breast Cancer Prevention to service assist individuals living in Antrim County who are uninsured or underinsured, with the primary objective to educate women and men about breast cancer. $ 10,000.00
Antrim County Emergency Services Funding to purchase reflective house numbering signs for residence and businesses in Antrim County that currently do not have proper numbering in accord with county-wide house numbering ordinance. $ 3,000.00
Antrim County Sheriff's Office Funding to purchase a Datacard ID Works Automated System that will help Antrim County's Sheriff's Office to provide secure identification cards to law enforcement personnel. $ 2,499.00
Benzie County Road Commission Funding for Automated External Defibrillators for the Benzie County Road Commission office in Honor, MI. $ 4,000.00
Benzie County Sheriff's Office Funding for personnel and a training program for inmate booking and jail management for Benzie County jail. $ 23,175.00
Benzie County Solid Waste Department Funding to purchase and install three surveillance cameras at three 24/7 recycling sites located throughout Benzie County. $ 1,875.00
Benzonia Township Funding to provide year-round sports activities for Special Olympics athletes. $ 5,000.00
Blair Township EMS Funding to purchase "LUCAS" - life saving equipment to increase survival rates from sudden cardiac arrest. $ 12,065.48
Boyne City Public Schools Funding to equip a room in the middle school with strength and conditioning equipment; and the remaining portion would be used to add anaerobic/cardiovascular conditioning equipment to the high school's strength and conditioning training facility. $ 21,643.00
Charlevoix Police Department Funding to purchase equipment to outfit two patrol vehicles with in-car cameras, including the software program required, the equipment itself, labor to install, and training/instructions for users. $ 15,000.00

East Jordan Emergency Medical Services Funding to purchase "physio-control lifepak 15," which will allow paramedics to quickly detect a patient having heart attack, obtain vital information, and electronically transmit the information to the nearest hospital. $ 25,000.00
Elk Rapids Township Fire Department Funding to replace outdated self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) bottles to improve fire fighter health and safety and improve their ability to serve those in need. $ 5,000.00
Empire Township Funding to purchase a generator to be used in conjunction with Empire Township's agreement with the American Red Cross for emergency needs. $ 4,568.50
Frankfort City Fire Department Funding to purchase miscellaneous firefighting and ice/water rescue equipment, including Bullard firefighting helmets and 12 ice/water rescue helmets. $ 4,518.00
Grand Traverse County Board of Commissioners Funding for the Conservation Resource Alliance for 60 projects on a dozen watersheds in 2011. $ 30,000.00
