Gas prices continue to creep higher

Michigan motorists are paying 5.5 cents more per gallon this week with AAA Michigan reporting a statewide average of $3.21.

The auto club said Monday the statewide average is 58.6 cents per gallon higher than last year at this time.

Traverse City drivers are shelling out an average of $3.25 a gallon Monday.  Last week in Traverse City, prices were $3.17 a galllon and last year at this time prices were a mere $2.65 a gallon.

Of the cities it surveys, AAA Michigan says the cheapest price for self-serve regular fuel is in the Benton Harbor and Flint areas, where it's $3.20 a gallon.

The highest average can be found in the Marquette area at $3.24.

Dearborn-based AAA Michigan surveys 2,800 Michigan gas stations daily.
