TRAVERSE CITY -- There were some very excited kids out and about in Traverse City Wednesday, taking full advantage of their snow day.
Traverse City Student Willa King says, "I was like screaming and jumping on my bed because it's so fun when I don't have school."
Many schools around northern Michigan were closed because of the winter storm.
The break from the books meant heading outside for some kids and braving the cold temperatures to do some sledding.
Linda Lyon spent the day with her grandson because his school canceled class. Lyon says, "I suggested a couple other things today we thought we might go to the pool or might go to the library but he loves to come up here sledding even though it's very cold."
Others opted to stay warm and headed to Lucky Jack’s for some family filled fun like bowling and arcade games.
General Manager of Lucky Jack’s Chris Mohrhardt says, "We opened at 11:00am when we usually open at 3:30pm but families were calling and we knew we needed to be open for them."
Traverse City Student Mikayla Marshall says, "Little too cold for me, we went out to breakfast and now were bowling."
Snow days have a way of bringing out the inner kid in all of us. Derrack Gage took work off to get in some quality time with his daughter. Gage says, "Just a great family day, I get to kick back have a cocktail or two...go out and do some bowling, try to stay warm."
