The FBI says there is no clear and ongoing threat. Classes will resume at NMU Thursday February 3rd.
Northern Michigan University held a media briefing at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to provide an update on the campus lockdown situation.
Authorities said they have worked with the FBI to identify persons of interest who may have information about an anonymous blog post that included a threat to the campus community.
Northern Michigan University and Marquette's public schools are shut down after an online threat is made against students and staff at NMU.
The threat was discovered around 8:00 a.m. Wednesday.
An emergency notice was sent to the university's 9,400 students about the threat. The public schools shut down as a precaution.
The following message is an update posted on Northern Michigan University's website:
NMU Public Safety and Police Services has things under control on campus, but for precautionary reasons, ask that people do not wander on campus or come to the university at this time. Students in residence halls are asked to remain there. More information will be provided as it's made available. The university remains closed for the day.
School leaders are concerned about various rumors circulating on campus and ask that you CLICK HERE and read any updates.
Other closings include Marquette Senior High School, Father Marquette High School, The Marquette YMCA, some public schools in Gwinn, and the Marquette general hospital is on lockdown.
The threat came from a blog in which a person stated that they were going to go to the school at 10AM and "shoot it up" and their goal was to outdo the Virginia Tech shooting.
