TRAVERSE CITY -- The unseasonably cool and unsettled weather that we have experienced for much of January will carry us into the start of our weekend.
A weak/compact area of low pressure will arrive Friday night across Michigan’s northwoods with light snow breaking out after 11 p.m. Friday night into Saturday morning.
The main concern with this will be the potential for 1-3” of snow taking us into our Saturday morning. While wind will be generally light and we are not forecasting blowing/drifting, roads will become snow covered and slushy overnight into Saturday morning across much of Northern Michigan, especially the Lower Peninsula.
The National Weather Service has issued Winter Weather Advisories for all counties Friday night into Saturday morning southwest of a line from Honor to Harrison including the cities of Manistee, Ludington and Cadillac. Snow totals will be highest here with 2-4” possible. Further north, over the U.P./Straits lighter accumulations are forecasted.
Those traveling late Friday night/early Saturday should be aware of hazardous conditions. Quieter and colder weather returns late in the weekend through next week.
