TRAVERSE CITY -- If a Michigan legislator has his way, guns could soon be allowed in schools and day cares under certain circumstances.

2011 House Bill 4009 was introduced by Rep. Richard LeBlanc (D) on January 13, 2011. The bill would repeal the “gun-free zone” provision of the concealed pistol permit law, which prohibits those who have received a permit after meeting the background check and training requirements, from carrying a pistol in schools, day care facilities, sports stadiums or arenas, bars, bar/restaurants, places of worship, college dorms and classrooms, hospitals, casinos, entertainment facilities that hold more than 2,500, and courts.

This bill was referred to the House Judiciary Committee on January 13, 2011.

When asked about the bill, Kevin Stubenvoll a Northern Michigan resident , said, "Glad to see Michigan backing off on gun regulations.  Why should someone with a concealed carry permit not be allowed to carry wherever they want?  After all they are certified, card carrying good guys, they are not the wack-jobs like the one in Tucson.  It is time to address the real problem (wacko people) not gun control.  Only an idiot thinks that getting rid of guns will stop gun crimes."
