See Why the Squad is Skipping the National Cherry Festival
The National Cherry Festival draws in thousands of visitors from across the world. That number skyrockets on year's the Navy Blue Angels headline the air show every two years. In fact 2010 was one of the busiest years yet.
A viewer emailed us saying he was planning ahead for the next expected visit in 2012. But when looked at the Blue Angels calendar, Traverse City wasn't on it. He had questions. The answers, first reported on 7&4 News, are tonight's Fact Finder Report.
National Cherry Festival Executive Director Tim Hinkley has confirmed that, no, the Navy Blue Angels will not be performing in the 2012 air show as expected.
The reason? You can blame it on American History.
The summer of 2012 is the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. So the Blue Angels will be performing in Boston at that time.
Hinkley says the Blue Angels plan 2 years ahead, so NCF organizers will apply to get the flight demonstration squadron for the 2013 air show. Hinkley says they'll know in December if the application was approved. Of course 7&4 News will keep you updated.
So what do you think about this?
