Aging water pipes shut down a busy intersection in Cheboygan Wednesday. The water main break at State and Water streets also impacted business at several restaurants and other shops.
The Director of Public Works in Cheboygan says the pipe that burst was installed in 1893. Many of the pipes in the area date back to the late 1800's or early 1900's.
The water pipes were supposed to be replaced last summer but the 3.5 Million Dollar project was put on hold. 7 & 4 News is told the water mains are set to be replaced this summer, with bids being taken for the work in the coming weeks.
The pipe that burst Wednesday was repaired, allowing business to reopen in the area.
