GAYLORD, MI -- It was definitely cold outside Monday, but inside South Maple Elementary in Gaylord, kids were reminded to be safe when playing outdoors.
Munson Medical Center employees promoted their program called, "Chill-out for Winter Safety."
The idea is for the center to educate kids on the dangers of doing winter activities if they don't have the proper safety.
An important discussion is the use of a helmet while sledding or ice skating.
"We teach the kids that even though a cut on your finger can heal in a week, our brain doesn't heal the same way, and we kind of show them and talk about that," said Jennifer Ritter, Safe Kids Coordinator.
munson has been to several schools to promote winter safety.
The “Chill-out for Winter Safety” program is sponsored by Kohl's, and each school receives free helmets to either keep in school or to hand out to less fortunate kids who might not be able to afford one.
