BENZIE COUNTY, MI -- Dozens of experts from Duke Energy were on hand at Benzie Central High School Sunday for a public wind power open house.

The meeting was held to discuss the Gail Windpower Project, which is a proposed 200-megawatt wind farm in Manistee and Benzie counties. The company said that particular region was chosen after conducting several wind studies.

According to Duke Energy, more than 150 jobs would be created during the construction process. Also, Benzie and Manistee Counties would be able to share $68 million in tax revenue over the life of the project, a company spokesperson said.

In total, about 100 wind turbines would be constructed throughout the two counties.

Duke Energy entered the wind energy industry in 2007. They operate wind power projects in Colorado, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wyoming.
