KALKASKA -- Kalkaska's 47th Winterfest is underway this weekend - and Saturday is going to the dogs.
Dog sled rides and a dog-weight-pull are some of the highlights of the annual event. There is also an international dog-sled race. Groups came from all over the world to compete -- even the Jamaican dog-sled team showed up.
Race Director Jim Collins says the number of teams participating jumped up from last year -- to a total of 135 -- making this the largest race in North America.
Collins says, "Unlike other events where you kind of start here and leave the community, everything stays here, they stay at the motels locally, they eat locally, every team you see out there is going to spend money in Kalkaska."
More fun is on the plan for Sunday. In addition to the dog sled rides and races, you can get started with the pancake breakfast, and enjoy the ice bowl disc golf tournament.
