TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- It's that time of year again. If you're not sick, at least one of your friends or family members probably are...
TCAPS Communications Director, Allison Arnold said, "Well, this is the beginning of the flu season. As yet, we have not seen a peak of any sort."
But classmates and coworkers are getting sick and if it's not the flu, what do the experts say?
Jennifer Lyon DO of Creekside Clinic in Traverse City said, "I've been seeing a lot of cases of strep throat lately. So I know that's going around the schools especially. Also, seeing a lot of people coming in with fever, upper respiratory symptoms like cough, you know that stuffy nose, and it's actually all part of a virus. If I do evaluate someone for the virus that's been going around, often times, antibiotics aren't going to help because antibiotics work on bacteria, bacterial infections and not viral infections. You know it is interesting to note that this year we really haven't been seeing any of the true influenza virus. I haven't had one case in the office."
So what can you do to stay healthy?
As always, good hygiene is important, and plenty of sleep and eating healthy work wonders. But if your symptoms get worse, be sure to see your doctor right away.
