In recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of non-violence, helping those in need, and giving back to our communities; Planned Parenthood of West and Northern Michigan (PPWNM) iscollecting donations for domestic violence shelters in our local communities throughout the month of January. Together with Planned Parenthood affiliates across Michigan, PPWNM is participating in this special project in honor of the late Dr. King Jr.’s birthday, January 15, and national holiday, January 17. “We see the result of domestic violence and sexual abuse at our Planned Parenthood health centers on a regular basis, so we want to show our support for victims with this project,” said PPWNM Vice President of Medical Services Bridget White. “Often women fleeing from domestic violence situations leave with nothing. That’s why this donation drive to help stock local abuse shelters is so important,” White added.

PPWNM is collecting a variety of needed items through January 31, 2011:

 Feminine Hygiene Products

 Bath and Beauty Supplies

 School Supplies

 Baby Products

 Winter Accessories (gloves, hats, scarves)

 Non-perishable Food Items

Donations can be dropped off at any Planned Parenthood health center in Michigan during regular business hours. Donated goods will remain in the local communities where they are collected.PPWNM health centers are located in the following Michigan cities: Big Rapids, Ionia, Grand Rapids, Marquette, Muskegon, Petoskey, Traverse City, and Wyoming.
