School employee charged with sex crimes
TRAVERSE CITY -- Michael Porter was arrested and charged with 1st Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, Possession of Child Pornography, Manufacturing Child Pornography, and Using a Computer for Criminal Activity.
The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office started the investigation on December 17, when a female disclosed to a detective that Porter had sexually assaulted her. The Sheriff's Office searched the suspect's home where several computers and electronic devices were recovered. During a forensic examination, police say the suspect was both in possession and had manufactured child pornography.
Porter is the Chief Technology Officer for the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District. Investigators tell 7&4 News that there is no indication at this time that any TBAISD student has been involved. Porter is being held in the Grand Traverse County Jail.
