More people are moving out of Michigan and other Great Lakes states. A new study from moving company United Van Lines shows national migration trends.
For 2010, New Jersey had the highest level of people leaving, followed closely by Michigan. Other states with high outbound migration include Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Missouri, North Dakota and Kansas.
It’s a different story for Washington D.C. which saw the highest level of people moving in for the third year in a row, followed by North Carolina, South Carolina, Oregon and Idaho.
Meanwhile western states that had high levels of people moving in are now seeing a leveling off of inward migration including Nevada, Colorado, and New Mexico.
United has tracked migration patterns since 1977.
