After failing to get money from one bank, she moved on to another
GAYLORD, MI -- A 60-year old woman is in the Otsego County jail tonight.
She robbed a Gaylord bank and tried to rob another.
This all happened Wednesday afternoon.
First the woman hit the Fifth Third Bank on Main Street.
Then she went straight over to Citizens Bank.
It's something you don't hear of every day.
Wednesday afternoon, police were called out for an attempted bank robbery at Fifth Third, and noticed this robber wasn't done.
"When they get this holiday stress going, sometimes they do things they wouldn't normally do," said Gaylord Police Chief Joe Fitzgerald.
The story starts at Fifth Third bank, right in the heart of downtown Gaylord. Around 3:55 Wednesday Afternoon, police got a call, saying there had just been an attempted robbery.
"Fifth Third just told her we're not giving you any money, there was no weapon showing or anything like that," explained Fitzgerald.
On top of having no weapon, the older woman wasn't hiding who she was. She didn't have a mask or anything to disguise her identity.
Police first responded to Fifth Third where they found out the suspect didn't get away with any money, but employees inside got a good description of the 60-year old. They said she headed east. About a half a block down, at Citizens Bank, police spotted her, walking out of the bank.
Police say Citizens Bank employees said the suspect had come in, with no weapon, nor disguise, and said this was a stick-up. Rather than put up a risky fight, they abided by the demands, and handed over cash to the 60-year-old woman. Police recovered the stolen money when she was put in cuffs.
“This is definitely something we don't have all the time, and like I said, luckily, it worked out the way it did, and nobody was hurt," said Fitzgerald.
So in a matter of just a few moments, the 60-year old attempted to rob Fifth Third Bank, and was successful at robbing Citizens Bank, but still, not fast enough.
The woman is now being held in the Otsego County Jail.
She'll be arraigned on attempted robbery and robbery charges in the next few days.
