Finding the perfect tree comes down to personal preference!
GAYLORD, MI -- Do you have your Christmas tree?
We stopped at one Christmas tree farm and the owner says numbers are up two-fold from last year, and the busiest weekend has yet to come.
7&4's Andrew Keller stopped by a tree farm today and helps those of us who haven't picked their tree find the perfect one.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. If you don't have your tree yet, you better get on it, it's only a couple weeks away. Now what makes the perfect tree? Martell's Northwoods Christmas Tree Farm helps us with that answer.
"Short needle, very full, and probably about seven feet tall," described Jerry and Pat Pawlowski.
"Something like this, yup, or that one, yup, the one leaning, yup, that's what you normally pick," explained Robin and Jackie Marshall.
The candy store of Christmas trees has a little bit of everything for everyone's taste. Short, tall, full, bare -- personal preferences guide families to the perfect tree.
Keith Martell is the owner of this farm in Gaylord, and says this year, Frazer Furs are popular as usual, and the number of trees sold so far this year is tremendous.
"We’ve sold twice as many trees as we normally do," said Martell.
So many have been sold, his “U-cut” field has been closed. Martell had to bring trees in from his other farms. He thinks people are getting back to tradition.
"The feeling that you get when you bring that tree into the house," explained Martell.
He says it takes about 10 years to grow an average Christmas tree, but when families, like the Pawlowski's and the Marshall's find their perfect fit, it's worth a decade of holiday cheer.
Keith Martell says if you haven't picked out your tree yet, you're not the only one. This is the busiest weekend for him to sell trees.
Martell is the former Michigan State Forester and says proper care of a tree, like keeping water in the base, can actually be safer than having an artificial tree.
