Heavy lake effect snow continues to pound parts, but not all of Northern Michigan. A consistent and cold northwest wind will remain stable through Wednesday, basically keeping the same locations under the gun for continued heavy lake effect snow.
So far, the highest totals were reported north of Hessel near Pickford in Mackinac County where 20" of snow has fallen already. Moorestown north of Lake City has tallied a foot of fresh snow since it started early Sunday.
The heaviest totals will be found over Wexford/Missaukee/Grand Traverse/Kalkaska counties where an additional 3-4" of snow will fall during the day Monday on top of what has already fallen. Lake effect snow will continue through Wednesday afternoon with total storm snowfall forecasts from Monday morning through Wednesday afternoon pushing 8" at Traverse City, 7" forecasted for Cadillac, and 5" at Bellaire. Even along Interstate-75, snow could cause travel problems with 5" forecasted for the Gaylord/Grayling region. The bullseye of snow will fall just west of Kalkaska along M-72 where 12-14" is possible.
Roads will remain snow covered and very slippery throughout this event. Gusty NW Winds will allow for some blowing/drifting of snow as well. If you live in or travel through these area, be prepared for occasional snow squalls that will greatly impact travel conditions. For the latest radar images, head to our weather page.
