TRAVERSE CITY -- Tuesday marks the 8th Annual Adoption Day in the state.

In Grand Traverse County 17 adoptions will be finalized throughout the day in the 13th Circuit Court.

The honorable David Stowe said there are more than 5,000 children in the state of Michigan still looking for a permanent home.

“There is no greater gift you can give a child and no greater gift you can receive,” Stowe said.

The LaParr family was one of 17 families adopting today. They said they are excited to become parents for the first time.

“This is our first child and first grandchild in the family so we are very excited,” said Terri LaParr.
