The oldest building in Boyne City will be saved
BOYNE CITY, MI -- Boyne City has started work on their water improvement project, and with new additions, a historic building will be saved.
A building built in 1910 will be completely renovated and returned into the city's water system.
It will house a new booster station, and will also have new public restrooms and a historical interpretive center.
The century-old building is on the national historic register, and saving it is something the city says is important.
"It’s the oldest building the city has in its whole inventory, and it has some history with the city as well, so in that perspective, yes, very important building for us to have," said Mike Cain, Boyne City Manager.
Monday, city leaders held the ground breaking to the new water improvement project.
The project is expected to cost $572,000 and is funded by grants from the Michigan Economic Development Cooperation and the State Historic Preservation Office.
