LANSING, MI (AP) -- Republican Gov.-elect Rick Snyder wants GOP lawmakers to focus on fixing the state's troubled economy as their first order of business in January.
But some conservative lawmakers have social issues such as restricting abortion at the top of their agendas.
That could put the moderate incoming governor in an uncomfortable position as he tries to get the GOP caucuses on board with his attempts to reinvent Michigan.
The state Senate will have 26 Republicans and 12 Democrats in the next term; the 2011-2012 House will have 63 Republicans and 47 Democrats.
During Granholm's eight years in office, the Senate remained firmly in GOP hands. Republicans also controlled the House from 2003-2006, while Democrats held the majority from 2007-2010.
