As families prepare for Thanksgiving, budgets will be on the top of many people's minds and this year you might have to shell out some more money for some of your holiday favorites.
The average cost of a meal for ten this year is $43.47 which is up 56 cents from last year.
Oleson's Food Stores' Director of Operations Jim Sommerville says there's a few items that are responsible for the price hike, "The butter fat market has went up and that has increased the price of the dairy products also with the pumpkin shortage there was a increase in the pumpkin."
So it's items like milk, heavy whipping cream, pumpkin pie mix and even sweet potatoes and pie crust that are raising the cost of Turkey Day's meal.
Even turkey prices are up by 20% and this is because there's record high costs in the price of raising turkeys.
Owner of Duerksen Turkey Farm Rick Duerksen says, "Feed is the biggest input that we have into a turkey its about 80% of the cost of raising a turkey and those prices over the years have continually climbed...continually goes up and that effects the price of the bird."
While the price of turkey is up, 7&4 News is told that stores will still sell birds for lower prices.
Sommerville says, "Turkey price has increased this year but in order to reward customers for loyalty and shopping with our market, we tend to offer the consumer a lower deal."
