TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- Hundreds of people showed up in Traverse City on Sunday for the ‘Go Clean and Go Green’ event.
Twice a year, the Michigan Green Consortium offers a free opportunity for people to get out and recycle.
Their goal is to keep reusable junk out of our landfills.
TV’s, computers, old refrigerators, metal scrap and used batteries were among the most commonly recycled items on Sunday.
Hundreds of cars lined Union Street in downtown Traverse City, where they waited to drop off their items.
We’re told that, on average, each event prevents more than 11,000 pounds of steel scrap from going into local landfills.
Organizers say the event is growing in popularity, and Sunday was one of their biggest turn outs ever.
