TRAVERSE CITY -- Saturday's Iceman Race was a success and the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy was a bit part of this.
The conservancy successfully protected a vital portion of the trial by Kalkaska which was used for the Iceman Challenge.
Many people who participated in the Iceman contributed to raise $25,000 dollars to purchase this critical space.
Iceman Founder Steve Brown donated $10,000 dollars of that money.
Director of Land Protection for the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy says "This whole trail and project really helped preserve the existing course of the Iceman and it's one of those reasons why the Iceman has been so successful and now attracts over 4,000 racers is the quality of the race course and this acquisition basically helped secure the quality of that race course."
He also says that the project has an opportunity to be a big economic driver for Kalkaska because people will be able to hop on their bikes at the new trail space and ride all the way to Traverse City.
