BALDWIN -- A Lake County community will soon have hundreds of new jobs after a contract is signed to reopen the former Geo Prison.

The GEO Group signed a new contract with California to bring more than 2,500 inmates to Baldwin.  The contract means the Northlake Correctional Facility will reopen and bring 500 jobs to the area.

The prison shut down five years ago.  7 & 4 News is told by community leaders the first prisoners from California are expected to be housed in Baldwin around May 1.

The GEO Group, which already invested sixty million dollars in expanding the prison, will continue with the construction immediately.
