GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY -- In it's 13th year, the 'Basket of Bounty Program' that's put on by the Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging is seeing more of a need this year compared to past years.

The Commission on Aging says already they have 60 senior citizen recipients signed up to receive baskets this December. These senior citizens are low income seniors in Grand Traverse County who are alone or not always remembered in the upcoming holiday season.

Baskets are delivered to these people contain non perishable food, toiletry items, house hold cleaners and paper goods.

Commission on Aging Office Specialist Lana Patenaude says that she is not surprised with the increase of need this year and says,"I see every day seniors who are needing help in different ways...with utility bills and dental bills, that sort of thing...so I'm not surprised. Most of the names we have come from our workers so they know first hand which of our clients really have a need."

They will be accepting donations through December 3, 2010.  Money donations are preferred but all donations are appreciated and welcomed.

Donations may be delivered or mailed to the Commission on Aging Office at 520 W. Front Street, Traverse City, MI 49684.

Also if you know of a senior citizen living in Grand Traverse County who could benefit from a Basket of Bounty, you can contact the Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging at 231-922-4688 or toll free, 1-877-686-4688.
