TRAVERSE CITY -- There is still time to help feed needy families in Northern Michigan by taking part in the Father Fred Foundation's virtual fall food drive.

The Father Fred Food Pantry needs to raise $4,000 to achieve the full value of challenges still remaining for their Fall Food Drive.

On-line donations through this Sunday the 17th will be counted toward the match goal.

"Donations to the on-line drive have been coming in every day but we still have $4,000 to go to max our match challenge. If you haven't been able to donate to the drive yet we hope you will help us not leave any money on the table, so to speak. We have until Sunday, midnight, to reach our goal," explained David Abeel, Director of Development at Father Fred.

"Funds from the grant will help our food purchasing budget for the rest of this year. Once we inventory the wide variety of donated products that came to us from the in-store drive and the "Fill the Bus" church drives, we will still need to make bulk purchases to "round out" our supplies."

"In one day, Father Fred distributes over $3,000 worth of food from its pantry. This is the time of year when we usually see an increase in pantry requests. People need to turn on their furnaces and some may have to choose between paying the heat bill and buying groceries," Abeel said.
