LUDINGTON -- UPDATE: 9:37 p.m. - The Ludington Police chief tells 7&4 News that the bomb squad just x-rayed the container and found that it contains cigarette butts. They say there is no threat to anyone and they are now clearing the scene.

ORIGINAL REPORT: 9:30 p.m. - A State Police bomb squad was called out to Memorial Medical Center in Ludington Monday night for a suspicious item spotted in a patient's backpack.

The initial call came in a little after 6 p.m. An ambulance from Oceana County was transporting a drunk patient when they saw a cylindrical object in his backpack that paramedics thought was suspicious. Police were called out and they contacted the State Police. They isolated the ambulance and as of 9:30 p.m. they were still working to determine if it was dangerous.

7&4 New will update this story when more information is available.
