Cost saving tips
TRAVERSE CITY -- With temperatures beginning to drop, especially at night, you may be thinking about turning your heat on. Before you do there are some key measures every family or business should take.
Jim Gallo with Sheren Plumbing and Heating says if a furnace is ignored it could break costing you hundreds of dollars to repair it. When traveling to businesses and homes for heater checkups, Gallo takes apart all burners to make sure they're clean, he checks the heat exchanger for cracks, and changes the filter.
As for tips you can do to keep your heating bill low, Cherryland Electric says there is something for every household.
1.) Put weatherstrips on doors and windows before it gets really cold
2.) Use programmable thermostats so that you can turn the heat down while you are away from your home
3.) Put a water jacket on your water heater
4.) Replace refridgerators and freezers that are more than 20 years old because they use a lot of energy
